For parents and guardians. This notice explains what information YourEDU collects in student accounts, how we use and share it, and the controls you have. It serves as our direct notice to you under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We apply the protections in this notice to every student account, regardless of the student's age.

1. How student accounts are created

Students cannot sign up for YourEDU on their own. A student account is created only when you — the student's parent or guardian — invite your student from your own YourEDU account. Before the student's login is activated, you review this notice and give your affirmative consent to our collection and use of your student's information as described here.

Because you hold the parent account, control the invitation, and provide consent directly to us, this process is how we obtain verifiable parental consent under COPPA for students under 13 — and we follow the same process for all students.

2. Information in a student account

Provided at account creation

  • The student's name and the email address used to sign in — both provided by you when you send the invitation.

Created through the student's use of the Services

  • Coursework the student submits for their courses (assignments, uploads, and similar work).
  • Records created about the student — grades, feedback, attendance, and enrollment records — by you as the parent and, if the student is enrolled in a Community's classes, by their teachers and Community.
  • Tasks, announcements, and course materials shown to the student, and the student's interaction with them (for example, whether an item was viewed or completed).

Provided by you, not the student

Other information about your student — date of birth, grade level, photo or headshot, medical conditions, allergies, emergency equipment needs, accessibility notes, immunization information, and emergency contacts — is provided and managed by you (or, where applicable, by your Community) through your parent account, where a Community's programs require it. Students cannot view or edit this information from their own accounts. It is covered by the Privacy Policy and the protections in this notice.

Collected automatically

  • Technical information needed to operate the account securely: sign-in records, session information, IP address, and browser/device type.
  • We do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers in student sessions. No Google Analytics, PostHog, Mixpanel, or advertising technology runs while a student is signed in.

3. How we use student information

We use student information only for educational purposes and to operate the Services:

  • Providing the student's courses — showing assignments, materials, tasks, and announcements, and delivering submitted work to teachers.
  • Showing the student their own grades, feedback, and progress.
  • Maintaining your family's education records (enrollment, attendance, transcripts) and, where applicable, those of the student's Community.
  • Sending account emails to the student (for example, the invitation to activate their account).
  • Keeping accounts secure and complying with law.

4. Who can see student information

WhoWhat they can see
You (parent/guardian)Everything in the student's account
The studentTheir courses, assignments, grades, tasks, and announcements — not the medical and household information you manage
The student's teachers — only if enrolled in a Community's classesRoster information and coursework for their own classes, and student information the Community's programs require for the classes they teach
The student's Community administrators — only if your family belongs to a CommunityEnrollment, records, and program information for their Community, per their role. If your family is not in a Community, no one outside your family sees your student's information
The publicNothing. Student accounts and information are never public. We do not publish student names or photos; any use of student photos by your Community is governed by the photo release process between you and your Community

5. Service providers for student accounts

These providers process student information solely to run the Services for us, and each is bound by written terms consistent with this notice:

ProviderPurpose
SupabaseDatabase, authentication, and file storage
StripePayment processing for program enrollments — payment records and receipts identify the student a payment covers (for example, the student's name in a charge description)
ResendDelivery of account email (such as the activation invitation)
VercelWebsite hosting

Beyond the people described in Section 4 — whose access is part of how the Services work — and the providers listed above, we do not disclose student personal information to any third party except as required by law, to protect safety, or as part of a business transfer in which the successor remains bound by these commitments. We do not send student account content to AI providers.

6. What we never do with student information

  • We never sell student personal information.
  • We never show advertising to students, and never use student information for advertising of any kind.
  • We never use student information to build profiles for non-educational purposes.
  • We never use student work or student personal information to train AI models.
  • We never condition a student's use of the Services on providing more information than is reasonably necessary.
  • We never retain student information indefinitely (see Section 8).

7. Your consent and your controls

  • Consent — the student's login activates only after you consent to this notice. Consent is recorded with your account.
  • Review — you can see and manage your student's information from your parent account at any time.
  • Revoke — you can revoke consent at any time by contacting us (Section 11). We will deactivate the student's login promptly after a revocation request.
  • Delete — you can delete the student's account and information, or ask us to. We may retain limited records where the law requires (for example, transaction records tied to enrollments you paid for).
  • No penalty — declining optional data collection never affects your student's access to their courses.

8. Retention and deletion

We keep student personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the educational purposes described here, and never indefinitely. We retain it according to the following schedule:

CategoryRetention
Student account and login informationWhile the account is active; deleted within 30 days of deletion or revocation of consent
Coursework and gradesWhile the account is active, so families keep usable records; deleted with the account. Families should export transcripts they wish to keep before deleting
Medical and emergency informationWhile the student is enrolled in a program that requires it; deleted within 60 days after it is no longer needed, or immediately on parent request
Technical logs90 days
BackupsPurged on a rolling basis within 90 days

9. Security

Student information is protected with the safeguards described in the Privacy Policy — encryption in transit, encryption at rest by our database provider, role-based access controls, and database-level access rules that restrict access to student records. Vendors that handle student information provide written commitments to safeguard it.

10. Changes to this notice

If we make material changes to how we collect, use, or share student personal information, we will notify you and obtain your fresh consent before the changes apply to your student's account.
